- A reason to get up in winter -
I recently bought pears. I am normally not a huge fan, only eating them when they have a crunch and even then, I am not sure if I really like them. Anyways, I really wanted some recently but I yet again, I was left with soft and mushy ones so I thought, let’s warm them up and make breakfast. Well, I bought a new batch a few days later and had to let them ripen for a couple of days to have this amazing bowl again.
You can obviously heat your oats and make porridge but I just love the cold oats combined with the warm cinnamon-y pears and the sweet/salty tahini sauce on top. It doesn’t sound very exiting but trust me when I say that the taste is like an explosion in your mouth. You are just set to have a good day when you have this first thing in the morning. So easy, so good and so good for you. There are no exact measurements but trust yourself and adjust to taste, nothing can go wrong!
You Need (makes 1 bowl)
- 1 Pear
- Splash of Water
- 1/3 cup Oats
- Non-Dairy Milk
- Pinch of salt
Peel and cut your pear, put them with a lot of cinnamon and splash of water in a saucepan and let it cook until soft.
Meanwhile, mix your oats with some non-dairy milk and let it sit.
Then mix your tahini with a little honey, pinch of salt and milk to make a runny ‘sauce’.
When your pear compote is ready, assemble everything. Take your oats, add the compote on top, pour the tahini over everything and sprinkle on some raisins.
You can obviously cook more pears and keep them in the fridge to warm them up the next day. Make sure that your pears are ripe for extra yumminess and if you want to make it vegan just swap the honey for maple syrup or agave.
